Learning Unit #3: The Brain
11th Grade Anatomy
Hello students! I hope you are ready to learn about the brain! The Human Brain. The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. It produces our every thought, action, memory, feeling and experience of the world. This jelly-like mass of tissue, weighing in at around 1.4 kilograms, contains a staggering one hundred billion nerve cells, or neurons. It is at the center of the body's circulatory system and pumps the blood to the entire body. In this unit students will study the brain in order to have a better understanding of its structure and function. Be creative and have fun! If you have questions I will be around to help!
*** REMEMBER: check the rubric!!!!!***
**Do your best work! These assignments will be VERY HELPFUL study tools!***
Lets Get You Thinking
I hope you guys noticed the pun in this heading!! Before you begin the assignments below, lets build on some terminology that may be used when discussing the brain. Please complete a word cloud on TAGUL. Click the link and it will take you straight to the site. Your tagul should include all the parts of the brain. It should also include key words that represent some of the functions (it doesn't have to include all!). It should also include words word that demonstrate what the brain helps the body do!!! Many words are available, take advantage of verbs!
***Please remember to be creative! The image you chose is your choice***
****Be sure to submit your tagul with the rest of the assignments you complete in this unit***
***Please do not copy the example!! There are many things that were not included***
Project 1 | Capzles Project
Using Capzles, create a time capsule of the brain. I would like for you to include a full image of the brain and then separate images of the parts of the brain. Include their functions. Also, you need to include activities that our bodies are able to do thanks to our wonderful and complex human brains. Another component that needs to be incorporated is nerves and the nervous system. The brain is a huge part of the central nervous system so that may be a great way to start your capzle. I have created an example for you to view using the site about a different body part. My example IS NOT any where near as thorough as what your final product should be! Be sure to refer to the rubric.
***Please remember to be creative! BE THOROUGH!!!***
Project 2 | Powtoon Project
Project 3 | Tinkercad Project

Submit all 4 projects to the Unit #3 submissions page on this website. If you click on the link it will take you directly there. Make sure all the links you attach work and display your assignments correctly. Please check the rubric again before submitting and make sure you meet all the criteria!
For this project, pick one of the major lobes of the brain. Create a powtoon based on that part of the brain. Include its functions, how it works with other parts of the brain, and how it contributes to activities we do every day. The brain is responsible for so many things so be sure to do your research! Be descriptive. Use pictures. Be creative. There are so many different things you can do by manipulating the tools on powtoon! Wow me! Please be sure to look over the rubric.
***Please remember to be creative! BE THOROUGH!!!***
*** Be sure to cite your sources***
This project will require you to use that brain of yours! What you will be doing is creating your own 3-D brain using Thinkercad. Use colors to distinguish the different lobes of the brain. Do not forget to label! This project may be a bit challenging. Youtube has great tutorials you can use to see the best ways to use the site. I will also be around to help. Please refer to the rubric as well. Feel free to explore the site! there are some really neat examples there made by others!
